The first mentions of hemp date back to the days of Babylonia about 7000 years ago. Hemp used to be well-known for its beneficial effects and thus became a preferred part of popular herbalism. In the 20th century hemp was viewed negatively not enjoying a quite good reputation. However, it has become the focus of a large-scale scientific research in the whole world nowadays. Medical cannabis is being used legally as a support in the treatment of all kinds of troubles in many countries already. Hemp contains, among other things, approximately 60 substances aggregately called cannabidiols. Cannabidiol itself (CBD) is a compound belonging to the class of cannabidiols, and it is not a psychoactive substance. The hemp variety with a naturally high CBD content was cultivated initially for uses in the textile industry. In fact, the plant can grow up to 5 metres high and be used to make long fibre strains – described as industrial cannabis. Its leaves and blossoms are used in the field of medicine (not necessarily industrial hemp) whereas its leaves and hemp oil, made of seeds, are mostly used in cosmetics and in food industry always as industrial hemp free of any psychotropic substances.
